Artist Statement

As a psychotherapist specializing in the expressive arts, I have spent the past few decades fascinated by the meanings associated with archetypes. These deeply symbolic universal forms derived from the collective unconscious, have fascinated humans for millennia – evident in all great myths and fairytales.

In my work as an artist, however, I seek to go beyond the unconscious and endeavor to pierce the veil of the supra-conscious – the level of awareness that surpasses the duality of the material world and taps into the consciousness behind reality.

In these cinematic, dreamlike images an intentional blurring happens between light and dark, awake and dream, memory and the present, which allows us to touch upon basic truths that are easy to dismiss in the busyness of the mundane.

A dialogue opens between the conscious and unconscious, psyche and matter, and it is here that an expansion happens – uniting the spectral and material. It’s here that we begin to find something elemental, just on the other side of “real” that takes on facets of the supra-real.

So, come along with me into a fairy tale; one not of words but of images. Step through the threshold of what you have considered real up to now, where you may discover something previously unknown and return changed somehow; and, always there is the invitation to awaken – not from the dream, but within it.
